    Car* querist*,

It was fantastic seeing so many of you at this spring’s AAIS conference. At our meeting, people expressed interest in having additional gatherings throughout the year. To that end, we would like to propose a meeting on Saturday October 2 @12pm EST.

Our initial idea is that, prior to the meeting, we will ask if anyone has work in progress they would like to share. During the meeting, each person would have about 10-20 minutes to present their work. We would then have an opportunity to engage with the presenters but also some time to discuss a subsequent meeting.

We are also in the process of planning a joint event with the Critical Race Studies and Women’s Caucuses. We will let you know about this event, which is to take place in November, as soon as we know more.

What we need from you right now: please mark your calendars with the October date, and then, if you have a work in progress that you would like to share, contact us. Obviously, limits of time mean we can only accommodate two to three people, so we will be working on a first-come first-serve basis.

In terms of the works-in-progress format, we currently envision the presentations as outline the following: the problem or subject the research will explore; the archive you will be consulting; your methodology; your positioning or initial point of entry (why you are engaging in the project, what are the stakes in doing so, what are your initial concerns, and so forth). The idea here is to share work at its earliest stages, work that would benefit from being discussed with sympathetic and enthusiastic colleagues working in queer studies. In that spirit we welcome work especially from early career scholars and graduate students who are aiming for article publication, dissertation projects, or first books. We hope to create a safe and supportive environment where people really can try out a new idea and see how people respond.

This works in progress workshop is just one idea. We see it as a starting point and would welcome other suggestions for maintaining contact throughout the year

    Bacioni,

    The QSC organizing committee
