I am delighted to share the publication of my book The Theater of Narration: From the Peripheries of History to the Main Stages of Italy (Northwestern UP). This study analyzes a contemporary Italian performance genre that dramatizes the intersections of narrative and history, public and private life, evidence and imagination. Incorporating original research from the private archives of leading narrators—artists who write and perform their work—I argue that the practice teaches audiences how ordinary people are not simply witnesses to history but participants in its creation.
The book is available in both cloth and paperback, and with the code NUP2021, there is a 25% discount at the publisher's website. With generous funding from the TOME project and Michigan State University, it is also available for free digitally via ProjectMUSE (https://muse.jhu.edu/book/84501), and elsewhere online. I would be grateful if you would consider asking your library to purchase a copy.
Wonderful news! Can’t wait to read this.
Thanks so much, Jonathan!
