    Dear Colleagues,

I want to remind you of graduate opportunities available to your students at The University of Texas at Austin. The Department of French and Italian graduate program has a Ph.D. track in Italian Studies.

Students in the Italian program are typically funded for up to six years through assistantships and instructorships—providing experience teaching Italian Studies topics in addition to language courses—as well as research fellowships. We have an example of what a typical six year schedule looks like with regards to financial assistance and teaching experienceOur faculty work closely with students to guide their course of study and offer a wide range of perspectives and expertise. Students are also invited to complete interdisciplinary portfolios in area studies such as Women’s and Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Interdisciplinary European Studies, Romance Linguistics, Language Teaching and Program Coordination, and Arts/Cultural Management and Entrepreneurship. With an interdisciplinary curriculum, as well as access to UT Austin’s collections of art and manuscripts, students have the resources to specialize within their field.

Below you will also find our program flyer, so I hope that you will encourage your students to apply to our program. Applications to start our program in Fall 2022 are due January 3, 2022, and much more information is available on our website. Students can apply if they will hold a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree by the time the Fall 2022 semester begins. Please note that again this year, the GRE is not required for those applying to the Italian Studies PhD program due to the impact of the pandemic.

If your students have any questions about our Italian Studies Ph.D. program, they are welcome to contact me atbini@austin.utexas.edu or they can also reach out to our Graduate Coordinator, Jessica Luhn, at jluhn@austin.utexas.

    Sincerely,

    Daniela Bini
